Discover ‘Cercle’: The First Circular Wine of the Balearic Islands

21 de June de 2024

In collaboration with Arabella Hospitality and Tirme, Bodegues Macià presents ‘Cercle‘, the first circular wine of the Balearic Islands.

The organic waste generated at St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca, Castillo Hotel Son Vida, and Sheraton Arabella Mallorca Golf Hotel will be turned into compost to nourish part of the Macià Batle vineyards. On Wednesday, June 20th, Finca Son Llompart in Santa Eugenia hosted the presentation of the first circular wine of the Balearic Islands, named Cercle, a result of the collaboration between Arabella Hospitality, Bodegas Macià Batle, and Tirme, the Environmental Technology Park of Mallorca.

«This wine is a commitment to the circular economy, integrating all three productive sectors. The idea is this: a tourist stays at an Arabella hotel, and their food waste goes to Tirme. There, it is turned into compost, which we use on specific vineyards in Son Llompart and Son Fiol; the result is a wine they can enjoy on their next visit to these establishments», explains Ramon Servalls, the managing director of Macià Batle. The first production consists of one thousand bottles for each type of wine: Cercle Blanc, made from the native Prensal Blanc variety and 100% barrel-fermented, and Cercle Rosat, a blend of Mantonegro and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cercle Negre, made from Mantonegro, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, is still in the barrel and will be released in the next production.

«Our customers value local products, especially those with such a positive environmental impact», stated Francisco Vila, CEO of Arabella Hospitality. Additionally, the Cercle label is the work of artist Belén Escutia, who created a painting representing the circular process using highly diluted acrylics. It illustrates all the steps taken to produce this wine. “You just need to follow the drawing counterclockwise,” concludes the artist.
