Opening of the first edition of the Mallorca Ladies Golf Open

The best golfers gather in Mallorca for the first time in history at the Son Muntaner golf course

On Friday, November 10, the facilities of Golf Son Muntaner hosted the press conference to introduce the first edition of the Mallorca Ladies Golf Open, an additional tournament on the 2023 Ladies European Tour (LET) calendar. The event will take place from November 16 to 18 at the Golf Son Muntaner course, one of the four courses that make up Arabella Golf Mallorca, the most prestigious golf resort in the Mediterranean. The elite of the best international women’s golf circuit will compete for €400,000 and a spot in the Race to Costa del Sol.

The event was attended by Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion, Francisco Vila, CEO of Arabella Hoteles e Inversiones de España, S.A. (AHEISA), Bernardino Jaume, president of the Balearic Golf Federation, and professional golfers Núria Iturrioz and Luna Sobrón.

Notable authorities present at the event included Javier Bonet, the first deputy mayor of Tourism, Innovation, Culture, Sports, Catering, and Municipal Coordination of the City Council of Palma, along with Pere Joan Planas, director of AETIB.

Francisco Vila,  expressed immense satisfaction in hosting such a prestigious event: “We are thrilled to once again host a tournament of the magnitude of the Mallorca Ladies Golf Open at Son Muntaner. An international event of this significance is very special for us and allows us to continue working steadily to solidify the seasonalization of tourism in Mallorca.” Francisco Vila emphasized that hosting this competition in Mallorca is “a gift for golf and sports enthusiasts, but above all, a very positive initiative for Mallorcan society.”

The inaugural Mallorca Ladies Golf Open, the first professional women’s tournament of this kind on the island, marks another significant milestone for the promotion of sports and Mallorca. The competition will follow a 54-hole stroke play format without a cut. The tournament will feature a stellar lineup of female golfers from around the world, including the top European figures in the sport. A total of 72 players will participate, with 64 from the LET circuit and 8 invited players.

Notable participants include five players in the top ten of the Race to Costa del Sol, as well as Swedish player Caroline Hedwall, whose contribution to the European Solheim Cup team was crucial to Europe’s victory. Golf Son Muntaner is an ideal venue for this competition, having successfully hosted the DP World Tour Mallorca Golf Open in 2022.
