Golf Son Muntaner Pioneers Autonomous Mowing Technology | Arabella Golf Mallorca
3 de July de 2026
The course has introduced state-of-the-art GPS technology to optimise maintenance, enhance the playing experience, and support a more efficient and sustainable course management approach.
Golf Son Muntaner continues to embrace innovation with the introduction of an autonomous mowing system, making it one of the pioneering golf courses in the Balearic Islands to implement this technology for course maintenance.
The arrival of two GPS-guided autonomous mowers enables the fairways to be mown automatically with millimetre precision, optimising resources while ensuring uniform coverage across the entire playing surface. Programmed to follow specific routes, the machines operate completely autonomously, delivering a consistently high standard of cutting efficiency and quality.
Technology Serving the Course
The introduction of this system marks a significant step forward in maintenance management. Thanks to the precision of GPS navigation, overlap during mowing is reduced, fuel consumption is optimised, and turf uniformity is further improved.
At present, the two units cover 100% of the course fairways, alternating mowing patterns that encourage healthy turf development while helping to maintain outstanding playing conditions throughout the year.
An Even Better Playing Experience
This innovation also brings direct benefits for golfers. As much of the mowing is carried out overnight, the presence of maintenance machinery during playing hours is significantly reduced, minimising disruption and providing a smoother, more enjoyable golfing experience.
By the time the first golfers tee off each morning, the majority of the mowing has already been completed, ensuring the course is perfectly prepared from the first tee.
More Time for the Details That Make the Difference
Automating the most repetitive maintenance tasks allows the greenkeeping team to devote more time to specialist work that requires experience, technical expertise and close attention to detail.
As Paco Gavira, Head Greenkeeper, explains, this technology does not replace the work of the team but complements it, improving efficiency in routine operations so that professionals can focus on the tasks that truly enhance the quality of the course.
A Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
With this latest addition, Golf Son Muntaner reaffirms its commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and the increasingly efficient management of its resources.
The integration of autonomous maintenance technology represents another step towards a more precise, sustainable and efficient management model, focused on delivering the finest possible playing conditions and reinforcing Golf Son Muntaner’s position as one of the Mediterranean’s leading golf courses.
